Ron Howard Begins Work on Han Solo Movie. Today was day one for Ron Howard as the new director of the currently untitled Han Solo film, and the director took to Twitter to share a small photo confirming he’s arrived and started working on the set of the film. Howard posted on Twitter to show that he officially started working on the film on Thursday. The director teases that they’ve finished shooting a fun sequence from the movie, but the image he reveals isn’t even cryptic, as he points his phone’s camera straight to the ground for a shot mainly comprised of wires and water bottles: It’s a bit disappointing that Howard’s tweet reveals next to nothing about what the film is working on at the moment. Not that it would be fair to expect Howard to reveal any sort of massive details, but a shot of something other than the ground would’ve sufficed. This is a very safe tweet from a  director who was hired for damage control purposes and is not looking to rile up any more controversy for a film that is already knee deep in it. According to some sources, Lord and Miller were fired from the film for frequently clashing with Kennedy and shooting the film with a more zany and comedic tone than Lucas. Film was comfortable with on their major production.

Howard is a competent choice to take the project into the home stretch, though it’s reasonable to wonder how much of the film will still belong to the previous directors, as they may even get a directorial credit on the final product. Sources within the project say that a lot of Lord and Miller’s footage is still very usable, so will Howard just be imitating their very specific style or reworking the film end to end? That remains to be seen, and will continue to be a storyline up until the release of official footage, which could be as early as July’s D2.
